Don’t take my word for it…

Come to this blog often enough and you’ll learn a bit about me. You’ll have a sense of who I am and the message that I intend to deliver to you.  I like to think that what I’m saying is clear enough and my results are evidential.

I understand apprehension though.  After all, I work here at HLCC so there is a chance that I’m only trying to sell you something.  You might read my words as a sales pitch no matter how often I say that I’m only trying to educate you on what we do and how we do it.  It’s human nature.  I know that when I go to a website and I’m reading the words of someone who stands to benefit, I listen with a closely guarded sense of skepticism.

I can only hope that you know I wouldn’t steer you, dear reader, down the wrong path.  What I say is how I feel and my success is genuine.  But sometimes it’s nice to hear a second opinion.  Sometimes its refreshing to hear a second voice.  That’s why I present you with Rich.

Rich is a client of ours.  His story is not unlike most of our clients.  He’s gone through our program and he’s seen for himself.  He is remarkably well liked amongst our staff and is always good for a joke or a kind word when he comes in for laser hair therapy treatment.  I asked him not long ago if he would mind sitting down with me for just a few minutes to discuss his story and he said no problem.  That’s not always the case.  If you’re going through hair loss, you’ll probably understand.  Even when you’re seeing exceptional results, for some people it’s tough to discuss your hair loss.  Luckily for us, Rich doesn’t seem to have that problem.

He sat down with me and answered some questions I had about his own hair loss story.  We got it on tape and thought that it would be great to show people who were interested in our services.

So in the interest in not just hearing from me, here is Rich in his own words.  This way you don’t just have to take my word for it.

What if I hadn’t made the decision to stop my hair loss?

You know, the Ted Koppel post got a lot of traction.  I heard about how awful I looked from some family, friends and clients.  The truth of the matter is that I was going for funny more than anything.  Of course I would look horrible with Ted Koppel’s hair.  Even TED KOPPEL looks horrible with Ted Koppel’s hair.

It got me thinking about the alternative.  I’m on this program so that I can combat my hair loss and grow new hair.  That’s why I take a DHT Inbitor Multi-vitamin, why I cleanse my scalp, why I use a DHT inhibiting shampoo, why I put minoxidil on my head every day and why I spend 30 minutes under a laser twice a week.  I do it to grow hair.  And as awfully funny as it looked with crazy hair, I’m quite hopeful that I’ll look… well lets say improved, with some hair of my own.

I’ve seen how it will look one way, so lets take a peek at another way.  What if I hadn’t stopped?  What if I had continued to let it go?  What if I hadn’t made the decision at the right time in my life to actually get off my butt and do something about my hair loss?  What would I have looked like then?  Well 20 minutes and some time with Photoshop… and I’m here to present to you what my eventuality would be.  This is how I would look bald.

AJ's Balding Hair Loss Head

Being bald tends to make men grumpy. Just ask George Costanza.

AJ's Bald Spot, Balding Hair Loss

"You can really tell from up here."

Looking at these pictures makes me very happy that I made a decision to stop it.  Very glad indeed.

And hey there dear reader, I hope that you haven’t come here just to see my story.  What about yours?  Family and friends aside, there are visitors to our site that are here looking for answers (I know… I see the traffic reports every day and I know that I don’t have too many friends in India.)  If you’re sitting there straddling the fence let me ask you one question.  What are you waiting for?  You don’t HAVE to lose your hair anymore.  Not today and not tomorrow.  It only takes one phone call, one click of the mouse, one e-mail to make a permanent change for the better.

There’s a little Skype button over there to the right if you want to talk to me.  Or send me an e-mail.  I’d love to chat with you and tell you my story.  I won’t be pushy and try to talk you into anything.  I’m just happy to help you by telling you my story and helping you rewrite an ending to yours.  “And they lived happily ever after… with a full head of hair.”  Sounds nice, don’t it?

It is….

I don’t need News Anchor Hair

I don’t think that I ever wanted “news anchor” hair. I really don’t. All I’ve ever wanted is to have some hair. Viable hair. The kind of hair that you can run your fingers though and do something with.

Having been on the program for some time, I’m at the point where I’ve started to see results. When I began this program I told myself that if I could just stop my hair loss, I would consider it a victory (have I said that here before?). But to be honest with you I’ve started to become slightly spoiled by the fact that I see new hair. Actually seeing results in real time has kind of made me think of the possibilities that growing new hair has presented.

People with hair take for granted the little things that matter to us balding folk. When I wake up on a Sunday morning in the fall, I look forward to relaxing on my couch with a glass of milk, some chocolate donuts and reading the Sports Section of paper. But the first thing that I do upon waking, without fail, is throw my ballcap on. It’s wrote memory at this point. I do it without thought. It’s a defensive mechanism that balding men have used for ages. It’s a comfort thing, like a worn blanket for a child. A quick way to sheild my scalp from the eyes of the world. One of these new possibilities that I have to face now is the fact that it will not only be possible, but also likely that I won’t seek refuge any longer under the cover of a cap.

It will be a freeing and invigorating experience to sit down on my couch, head uncovered, and enjoy some early morning Autumn football with a full head of hair. Not that I need to look like Ted Koppel. In fact, not sure that would be a good thing!

AJ With News Anchor Hair

Wow... just a few new hairs should do just find.

It’s gotta be the shampoo!

Shampoo is something that I’ve never really spent any time at all thinking about.  When I was a kid, my mom bought it.  When I was in the military I bought whatever they had at the ship’s store.  As an adult, my wife typically picks it out.  It’s just not something that I used any brain power on.

But in the past few years, as I began to watch my hair disappear in a steady decline, I started to realize that different shampoos did different things to my hair.  An obvious thought, I know, but nonetheless it is a thought that had escaped me throughout my life.

One thing that I’ve found, and it’s something that I’m sure is shared by those in my hairline situation, is that it’s not just about the hair that  you’ve lost… but it’s also about what happens to the hair that you still have.  That fine, thin, wispy and lifeless hair.  It’s just hanging on there like a sad bunch of homeowners who won’t face the fact that their neighborhood all but lost.  Those hairs that are left need help.  They need to be reminded that they are still alive, willing and able.  And that is where the shampoo comes in.

If you’re loosing your hair and you’re not paying attention to the shampoo and/or conditioners that you are using you could be making matters worse.  it wasn’t until I started working here that I heard about Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS).  SLS is a common component of engine degreasers.  Shampoos use it to give you the suds.  Which, by the way, did you know that suds are absolutely useless in shampoos and toothpaste?  Yup.  They serve no purpose other than to exist so you won’t have to wonder where they’ve gone.  Products like SLS are found in virtually every over the counter shampoo. These things rob your hair of any kind of life and when you don’t have much hair left that’s definitely not a good thing.  Imagine a forest that has lots of room between the trees.  Now imagine those trees are dying and weak and bending over.  That’s my scalp.

When I started using our shampoos, I noticed the difference immediately.  The hair that I do have is alive again.  It’s not a limp shadow of it’s former self.  Instead of just serving as minor coverage between bald spots, it’s not actually styleable (is that a word?)  I can do stuff with it, which is more than I’ve been able to say for quite some time.

I’m not trying to talk you into buying anything here today (though we do offer a lovely line of amazing shampoos).  I’m just trying to send the message that what you use to clean your hair and scalp plays a part in your appearance.

How is it going?

You know, that’s the question that I’m asked more often than not regarding  my hair loss therapy.  “How is it going?”  Given the fact that I’ve only been on the program for a few weeks now… I would say that the results are better than expected.  How much so… judge for yourself.

Normally we wait a number of weeks (or a few months) before we start to do the second set of pictures.  But seeing as how I work here and I have this blog, we decided to do them a little early.  Suffice it to say I was very happy with the results.  As was Paula, our resident RN.  I probably won’t soon forget something that she said to me while doing showing me the magnified pictures of my scalp.  “Normally” she said “I’m happy to see 1 or 2 new hairs with this photo.  I think that I lost count at 12.”

I knew that my hair felt thicker and healthier, and I thought that I saw clear new growth… but I had myself convinced that it was just the placebo effect.  I was hoping that it would work so I had convinced myself that it had.  It wasn’t until an outside opinion reinforced my thoughts that I really started to believe………… this is actually working!

Why I love our products… and why I’m not just saying that.

Ok, so I’ve been on the program for a few days.  Again, not long enough to say “WOW I have ALL my hair back!”  I’ve said in a previous post that it’s certainly enough to make me feel more confident and excited for my situation.  Using the laser is a breeze.  I told my wife that it’s a lot like putting your head under a hair dryer, but without the heat.  But what I want to talk about today is our products, specifically the ones that I’m using.  Before I go into it all let me say this in full disclosure: it’s my job to market these products and you’re right to be skeptical reading a blog written by someone who works for the company.  But everything that I put on this blog is my honest opinion about something that I use myself.  If I wrote it here, then it’s how I feel.  There, now that I’ve said my peace… let me tell you what I’m using on a regular basis and why I’m using it.

To start off my regime I begin by cleaning my scalp with HLCC’s™ Scalp Therapy.  What this does is essentially prepare my scalp for everything else that is coming.  Most people don’t know (myself included before I began the process) that their scalp is covered by a minuscule waxy build up called Sebum.   Sebum covers the scalp and the hair follicles and often chokes out hair follicles.  In fact if you’ve ever used Minoxidil before and didn’t clean your scalp first then chances are it never had a change to work at all.  Minoxidil and all topical DHT inhibitors need to get into the follicle (they work at the derma-papilla level) so you have to clean your scalp of sebum build up first.  I was talking to our RN Paula the other day and I gave her an analogy that she seemed to like.  I said that trying to use Minoxidil without a scalp cleanser like Scalp therapy was like trying to paint your nails after you’ve dipped your hands in paraffin wax.  I rub my scalp with this and then wait a few minutes before hopping in the shower (usually about as long as it takes to shave my pasty Irish face.)

In the shower I use our DHT Inhibiting Bio-Therapy Shampoo.  This is another way that I try to block or inhibit the DHT which is a main component in my hair loss.  But more than just that purpose, I have to say that this is the best shampoo that I’ve ever used.  I know I’m biased and I know you’re probably skeptical when I say that but it’s the truth.  My hair just feels cleaner and healthier.

Right after that I put on our Vitamin Plus Conditioning Treatment.  The first time I used it I remembered hearing about how awesome it was during my consultation and how most everyone in our office used it.  Within minutes I realized why.  I can’t recall the last time that I used a conditioner that felt like it actually conditioned my hair and not just made it smell like herbs and berries.

After I finish up there I head over to the mirror and apply Minoxidil (once my hair has dried, obviously.)  I just want to reitterate this important point… I used Minoxidil before and with no luck so I was hesitant to try it again.  I didn’t know before that without a clean and open scalp there was no way for the Minoxidil to work.  I also wasn’t aware that the name-brand stuff you buy over the counter is suspended in alcohol which is probably why I broke out using it before.  HLCC enhances minoxidil by suspending it in a carrier lotion to give it a better delivery method and one that is a lot nicer and cuddlier to my scalp.

Lastly, twice a day, I take HLCC™ Scripts Complete which is a supplement that uses a multitude of DHT Inhibitors.  It even has a Viviscale like ingredient which contains marine products proven to fight hair loss.  Look… I didn’t know a DHT from a RBI a few months ago but I know that DHT doesn’t stand a chance now.  I’m attacking this follicle strangling hormone like it’s WWIII under my scalp!

It’s been obvious to me from the outset that HLCC™  has gone to great lengths to streamline the use of it’s products.  Compliance (using the products as instructed) is the number one factor in success, so it’s in our best interest to make it as simple as possibly to use.  All in all, this whole process added maybe 10 minutes to my nightly hygiene routine.  Not a bad price to pay for having my hair back.

*Authors Note:  I’ve linked to all the products because on each page there is a more detailed description of what each does.  If you want to know more, please click on the link.  I’m not just trying to sell you something, I’m also trying to educate you on your hair loss and how our products can help you fight it.  You can also feel free to e-mail me or use the Skype button to ask me any question that you might have about our products or anything hair loss related.  I’m here to help… I really am.  Thanks, AJ.

What is Laser Hair Therapy?

If I’m being entirely honest here (and isn’t that what a blog should be if nothing else?) then I must admit that before I came to work for HLCC, I had NO idea what Laser Hair Therapy was.  Let me do my best to explain to you what is at times called Low Level Laser Therapy ( LLLT ), or what some people refer to as a hair loss laser.

When I did my consultation I sat down with Paula, or resident RN and Certified Hair Loss Specialist.  If you visit one of our affiliated clinics, I’m positive that you’ll receive the same excellent education that I did.  She told me about genetic traits, sebum build up, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and other factors in hair loss but we’ll save those for another post.  She then proceeded to tell me about laser hair therapy.  This is what I want to talk to you about today.

To explain LLLT, I’ll just use some copy from one of the pages on our site (www.hlcconline.com/laser-hair-treatment.html):

Laser Hair Therapy (LHT) is a non-surgical, scientific approach in the cosmetic treatment of hair loss, thinning hair, and scalp problems. LHT has been tested for effectiveness and safety for over 30 years all around the world. Although we sell and offer Cosmetic lasers, several Medical devices have now cleared the US FDA.
The LHT non-surgical cosmetic treatments utilize a device containing 110-160 therapeutic soft low light level lasers. LHT delivers light energy directly from 110-160 laser diodes covering your head. LHT functions on the same scientific principle, as that of photo-bio-stimulation; laser light stimulates cell metabolism and helps damaged cells to repair themselves.
This breakthrough technology has recently been featured on national newscasts across the country. Physicians are praising this new technology as an effective treatment of hair loss, when used in conjunction with proper scalp and hair hygiene products, such as HLCC Complete, the most potent natural DHT inhibitor and 5% Minoxidil w/ 5% Saw Palmetto.

I hope that helps explain it to you.  But let me try to put it into an analogy that is understandable by the scientifically challeneged (like myself.)  Basically you can think of your hair as a plant and your scalp as the soil.  If you’re losing your hair then the scalp environment has become damaging to your hair follicle.  Essentially the soil has gone bad and the sunlight ain’t helping.  Now imagine that the light provided by one of our lasers is the best sunlight you can imagine full of nourishing energy and health.  Much like the sunlight helps plants to grow strong and healthy, our lasers do the same thing for dead or dying hair follicles.  They give them new life and strength.  What hair you do have will become much livelier and healthier, and the hair that you lost is given a strong chance to grow again.  That in a nutshell, is laser hair therapy.

Now what would happen if you added Miracle-Gro to that mix?  The plants would grow even stronger, right?  Well that’s where our line of hair care products, vitamins, supplements and enhanced Minoxidil comes in…….. but I’ll leave that for another post.

BTW… I’m having a lot of fun writing these, are you having fun reading them?  If so please comment below, or send me an e-mail or Skype with the buttons to the right.

The dreaded ‘Before’ pics – A Balding Illustation

One of the first things that happens when you come in for a hair loss consultation with HLCC is an education as to the causes and solutions of hair loss.  You’ll get an education as to what has happened to cause your particular hair loss, and what HLCC can do to help you combat it.  Once you’ve been properly educated and informed you are then faced with what is a moment of sometimes uncomfortable clarity…. you have photos taken of your hair.

For most people who have lost a fair amount of hair in their lives, photos of their hair is something that they avoid like the plague.  To be faced with the prospect of having your hair photographed from all conceivable angles (including the worst) is a daunting proposition.

But then I found something unexpected… I found that it was at turns both liberating and eye opening.  To see your hair, actually see it the way that others do, forces one to accept their hairline for what it really is.  And when you see the microscopic level images you can see how truly unhealthy an environment that your scalp can sometime be.  Additionally, you also realize that it’s not your fault at all.  In addition to the various genetic factors that play a part in hair loss you can also see that the shampoo that you’ve been using for years might not be the best for your hair.

The 50x and 200x magnified images show you the collection of sebum, which is a build up around the hair follicle.  Maybe you’ve used Rogaine with Minoxidil before and wondered why it never worked.  Seeing this image can illustrate clearly why it never worked.

In the end, what happened for me was a wake-up call… a realization if you well.  It was an opportunity to see where my path for hair restoration would begin.  That’s why I wanted to take a minute out and show you where my journey began.  Here’s the images of my hair line as I began my journey.

So far, so good.

It’s been a few days on the program, and I’m trying not to over think things.  I can tell you with 100% honesty and full confidence that at the VERY LEAST, I feel better.  Maybe it’s as simple as the fact that I’ve finally made the decision to do something about my hair loss.  I’ve taken control of own hairline destiny and that makes me feel better.

It’s probably far too early to have any noticable effects… but right now, that doesn’t seem to matter to me.   What matters is what I FEEL.  And I feel like my hair is responding.  I’m using our DHT Inhibiting shampoo, HLCC Scripts Complete DHT Inhibitor and Vitamin, enhanced minoxidil, and laser treatment.  If I’m being honest with myself I have to say that I haven’t given it enough time to go to work on my hair.  It’s only been a couple of days so it’s impossible that I could be seeing maximum results… right?  But again, what is happening is most definitely a change in perception.  A feeling that I’m no longer out of control.  I have taken the reigns and have steered this hair loss back on to the path of correction.  I anxious to see the results as they occur in real time and am also excited to share them with you.  But if nothing else right now, I ‘m feeling more confident and self-assured.

I’m certain that’s not all I’ll get out of this program… but even if it was, wouldn’t that be worth the price alone?

My journey begins…

I am an about to be 32 year old husband and dad… and I am going bald.  It’s something that I’ve known for a while and have slowly come to grips with.  It’s difficult some mornings when you look in the mirror and you notice some more hair that you’ve lost.  Or sometimes you see a photo of yourself from a few years back and think “If I could just look like that again.  I don’t want to have News Anchor hair but if I could just have some of it back.”

I recently read a description for a job that I thought I was perfect for.  When I sent in my resume I noted how well I thought I fit the position and I did my best to really sell myself.  Afterwards I went back and did some more research for the company and I realized how interested in the products and lasers I was.  I immediately contemplated writing back and saying “Hey… you should think about me because I’m going bald too and I know where your consumers are coming from.  It just so happens that the company was Hair Loss Control Clinic, and it just so happens that I got the job.

As I began working with the company I learned more about how the multi-therapeutic approach to combating hair loss worked and how impressive our products were.  I saw a multitude of before and after images, watched client testimonials and I wanted to give it a shot for myself.  I went in to talk to my boss and I got on the program.

I’m not unrealistic about my wants or goals with this.  I have said a number of times that if I could stop my hair loss where it is at and keep this for 20 years I’d be entirely happy with that… and that is the truth.  If I get that much out of this program I will count that as a success.  That would be something wasn’t possible yesterday and wouldn’t have happened had I not intervened.  If I see some growth back and have some regained thickness and body in the hair I have no that would be a significant plus.  When I looked at the numbers I figured it was a safe bet.

I didn’t want to go on this journey alone.  I have always liked reading the thoughts, comments and experiences of others going through the same things that I am.  With that, I’d like to offer to keep you informed about my progress.  I will show you the results and discuss with you my experience.

My Hair Line as I begin my Journey
